In Coming

Curated by Ek Thongprasert left a heavy impression on me, the designs are intricate yet simple with the very touch of sophistication. This Thai designer label has its own unique identity and flavour. The clothes are impeccably made and fabrics chosen are extremely comfortable.

This Spring/Summer season for women, vibrant printed silks of fluttering butterflies and blooming flowers created a strong theme of illusional motion throughout the entire collection. Silhouettes were kept simple but fresh ideas of folds and cut-outs kept me interested, luring me into Curated’s dreamy world of pastel hues and kaleidoscopic prints.

As for mens wear, masculinity with a hint of ‘pretty boy’ dandyism gave the collection the right amount of trendy uptown chic. What caught my eye was Curated’s jumpsuit designed for men. This unique design will definitely be an upcoming trend worldwide. Being seen numerously on women, it’s time for a change in role.

Having spent my recent trip to Bangkok discovering many great Thai designer labels (Greyhound, Sretsis, Milin, Disaya, Painkillers, Jogema and Matina Amanita to name a few), I must say that Ek Thongprasert is phenomenal. I now have a mindset that Bangkok is no longer associated with fashion markets like Chatuchak, but a strong foundation of brilliant Thai designers.

Splash Out In Colour

This month’s craze about colours got the better of GQ and their shoot campaign star Cam Gigandet. The Priest star, also known best for his Twilight and Burlesque lead role, looks (how should I put it…) smoking hot in technicolour, embracing this summer season’s ultimate vivid colours in style. Love the fedora that completes the look.

It is an extremely easy trend to follow without much difficulty. The only rule is that there are no rules as to which colour matches which. Throw on an ultra blue top with red chinos and a dazzling pair of green sneakers, this definitely gives you a character. Have fun!

On A High Note
Ashley Oslen showed up at the 2011 Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala in high drama. The ravishing vintage Dior Couture she wore surely had photographers on a frenzy. Those puffed sleeves and the high slit is sexy yet elegant. This style icon definitely knows what’s best to appear in on the red carpet, especially on an event where many stars and fashion divas would be in high fashion.
Simply stunning.

Audi Fashion Feast

This year’s line up is just as tantalizing as the last. With Missoni opening on 13th May and Emanuel Ungaro closing on the 19th, the runway would be heated up with this Fall’s 2011 collections.

Missoni would be showcasing their pastel hues this season; from chunky knits to baggy trousers, a great silhouette for comfort and ease. The vibrant pastel colours delivers a different take on the bold primary colours seen in Spring from many of the designers. Watch out for those trendy snake skin booties that would be slithering down the runway.

Ungaro celebrates femininity with strong bombshell looks. Sexy curves, skin baring sheerness, hard-on leather and high necklines will discharge an adrenaline rush, wanting to see more. This show would definitely be the excitement of the entire fashion festival.

Erdem, one of my favourites which is featuring on the 14th, would be sending psychedelic sensations down the runway. The graphic arts of Erdem’s prints are beautifully splashed with luridness. With effortless ready-to-wear clothing, Erdem’s uniqueness exhibits from their fabrics.

Style icons like Margherita Missoni will be one to look out for at the tents. I wonder what statement she would be wearing in humid Singapore!

Metropolitan Chic

Comfort is always the ease to a jet-set lifestyle. Visualize a au courant young woman in easy to wear fashion that possess an avant garde statement; Sojourn designed that particular luxury.

All about fashionable women wandering from city to cities, the team of graduating designers from NAFA, Charlene, Evelyn, Lulu and Michelle, has infused modernity with essence of tribalism.

The flow of the intricate blouse flatters the body and gives a great shape suitable for most body types. Giving the right amount of interest, it is without doubt a stunning piece. In terms of colour palette, cream and maroon exudes an expensive appearance, which is remarkably chic.

It teases my interest in what more Sojourn could create and break through into the Singapore fashion industry. I find it refreshing that colours are thoughtfully used currently in local designer’s collections. Black, white and greys are so yesterday. I rather a milked out black then a solid one. It is definitely the right time to step out looking lively and energetic!

Short Reaction!

Juxtaposition of short and long is a great way to jazz up. For example; nothing wrong with pairing an oversized men’s white shirt over a mini sequin skirt. Androgyny has been around for a long while, express it differently with play of textures and colours of clothing.

Another short trend could possibly be the boldest; cropped hairstyles. It is the easiest way to look younger. This edgy trend unfortunately isn’t meant for all, but with confidence and a good dress sense you could leap to greater heights. I love Janice Pidduck’s cropped hair, styled by Toni&Guy, her sharp look is fun and versatile. There is something about cropped hairstyles that speaks fashion forward.

Try it!

Style:’s May fashion spread is a dynamic work of art, fashion and music. This exhibition of layering and accessorizing is key to achieve a bold statement. I especially love the semi-precious turquoise beaded necklace with tassel. Elements of ethnicity could bring your look to another level.

Styled by Sharon Tulasidas and photographed by Wee khim, this unique take of fashion within music genres is fab!
